The Benefits of Meditation

Meditation has many benefits, but here are five benefits of meditation that can have a significant impact on your health.

1. Meditation can Reduce Stress
Stress can impact your sleep, increase your blood pressure, cause fatigue and cloud your judgement. Stress unchecked an can also lead to depression and anxiety.

Studies have shown that a program of mindful meditation over several weeks can reduce the inflammation response caused by stress.

2. Meditation Can Promote Emotional Health
One study on mediation discovered that people who completed meditation exercises experienced fewer negative thoughts in response to viewing negative images.

Also some forms of mediation can lead to a better outlook on life and an improved self-image.

3. Meditation Can Lengthens Your Attention Span
If you're looking for a way to stop zoning out in those work meetings, meditation could be the answer. Meditation focused on improving attention is like exercise for your attention span. With enough reps, you can increase the strength and endurance of your attention span.

4. Meditation May Reduce Age-Related Memory Loss
On neuropsychological tests taken by participants that are dealing with age-related memory loss, a form of meditation that blends a chant or mantra with a repetitive motion of the fingers to focus thoughts, has shown to be beneficial and has helped improved performance on these test.

5. Meditation Can Improve Sleep
Did you know half of the population may struggle with insomnia at some point? You may be struggling with it now.

A study that compared a mindfulness-based meditation program to an un-medicated controlled condition, revealed that the people who mediated stayed asleep longer and had improved the severity of their insomnia.

There are many other benefits to meditation, but these are five that I believe that I chose, because they are conditions that are often treated by pharmaceuticals. If your dealing with any of the symptoms above, and over-the-counter or prescribed medications aren't doing the trick, try meditation.</pre>
